Paper #5 DUE Monday November 9 Metamorphoses
"Metamorphoses" means "transformations" and there are many, many kinds of transformations throughout the production. Indeed, nearly everything in the story is in a process of changing. After careful examination choose 2 of the myths to compare. Some points of consideration: Are the transformations rewards or punishments. What is the driving force behind the transformation? How do the characters react to the transformation? We know in ancient Rome these stories were essential and explanations of society. How is this story a relevant topic in our modern world?
Be careful not to turn your essay into a summary of the story. Examine the differences and similarities. Do we have myths today? Support your answer with examples from the text. And if other quotations and sources are used, include references.
Paper #6 DUE: Tuesday November 17 Modern Theatre
As we near the end of class, look back at the history of theatre and using Peter and the Starcatchers as a starting point, examine theatre from a different perspective. Try to avoid generalizations and personal opinions remember to support your perspective with references to any or all of the texts used in class so far. Be careful, this is not meant to be solely an opinion paper but a means of examination through a different lense.
